The short version. DrinkBy has no server. Your cellar — label photos, dates, notes, prices — is written to the app's own storage inside your iPhone and never leaves it. We have no database of you to sell, leak or hand over, because there is nothing to hold.
When you scan a label, the image is processed on your device using Apple's on-device text recognition (Vision), and — where the device supports it — Apple's on-device language model, to suggest values for producer, vintage, alcohol and bottle size. Neither step sends your image or the recognised text to us or to anyone else. If the model is unavailable on your device, the fields are parsed from the printed text instead, and the app tells you so on screen rather than pretending otherwise.
Reading a label works with no network connection. That is deliberate: cellars, winery basements and trains are where this happens.
All of it lives in the app's sandboxed storage on that iPhone (Application Support). It is not backed up to any DrinkBy service, because there is none. iCloud backup behaviour is governed by Apple's normal rules for app documents, not by us.
Unlocking the unlimited cellar is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through your Apple Account. We receive only the transaction information that StoreKit exposes to the app on your device, which is what lets the app stay unlocked when you reinstall it. We never see your name, address, card details or receipt email, and nothing renews: there is no subscription in this product.
Both are optional. You can use the app entirely by typing bottles in by hand.
Settings → Export everything (CSV) writes the whole cellar to a file you can open in Numbers or Excel and share wherever you like. Settings → Delete all wines erases the records immediately, with no confirmation round-trip to us. Deleting the app removes everything else it holds.
DrinkBy is a wine cellar tool and is rated for ages 17 and over. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
If this policy changes, the version and date at the top of this page change, and the same page is updated. The in-app copy of the policy (Settings → Privacy) is kept in step with it. Continued use after an update means you accept the updated terms; in practice, a policy that promises "we hold nothing" has very little room to grow.
